Online Poker Players in the U.S. Looking for Greener Pastures
Poker has become a prime sport in the United States over the past several years. Tournaments are watched on TV by thousands of people. Texas Hold ‘Em has become something many households have learned to play because of it. Many people were even making money by turning it into an online career. That was up until this April when the federal government blocked all access to online poker sites.
That one act put a detour on many people’s lives, who had money in these sites. There were some people spending up to one hundred hours each week generating money from playing online poker. These were also people who were putting their money back into the economy. Most of these people lived in cities such as Vegas where they could spend their money at any time of the day.
This has many of these people wondering if it is time to leave the U.S. and go where their trade is legal. They could easily head out to Canada or Mexico, which both have legalized many forms of online gambling. While many of these people can go to casinos and do the same thing, earning money virtually was typically quicker and did not require such a high buy in.
For the ones considering leaving, this was not just a hobby to them. These men and women usually have studied poker and built up the necessary skills to make nice incomes. They play poker like an athlete would play a sport. There is dedication involved and literal skills needed to play and be successful. Now, they have been denied access to their sport. It was their livelihood that was messed with, and they have every right to look somewhere else. Would anyone really blame them for packing up and leaving?
